Christal Shurley founded our Meditative Movement™ program in order to offer a theraputic atmosphere to relieve stress while engaging in Biblical meditation and exercise.  This program uses deep stretching techniques found in Ballet and Modern dance as well as Modern dance warm up techniques.  Techniques used are derived from Martha Graham Technique, Lester Horton Technique, Jose Limon and Merce Cunningham Techniques. While this class may be used for exercise and weight loss, this is not the focus.  Focus in this class is stress relief, focused Biblical meditation, flexibility, balance and fluidity of movements. Joint and spinal stability, core strength, tension relief, flexibility and breathing are the goals.  Dance has been shown to have many theraputic benefits not only for the body, but for the brain’s cognitive function and memory as well.  According to a 2008 study in the American Journal of Health Education, students engaged in dance classes found an overall increase in life satisfaction.  Just like exercise, dance releases endorphines in the brain which causes a chemical reaction that helps to relieve stress. The use of aromatherapy, essential oils and communion may be used in class.  Classes open in prayer.  Acoustic and percussion modern dance music as well as worship music is used in class.  Mrs. Shurley encourages dance and exercise as a form of worship, healing and ministry.  Meditative Movement is an inclusive class where people of all faiths and backgrounds are welcomed with love and encouraged to attend.  This class may also be offered off-site.  Christal Shurley travels to offer Meditative Movement™ classes and certification workshops across the country.  If you would be interested in offering this class or if you are interested in becoming a certified Meditative Movement™ Instructor please email Christal Shurley at
